The house

Tradition, terroir and biodiversity

Virginie Bergeronneau belongs to a new generation working a long lineage. Her ancestors arrived in Champagne in the sixteenth century as wine workers, passed through cooperage, became cooperators at the start of the twentieth century, and in the nineties her parents became independent winegrowers. Through that heritage she wants to show the presence of women in the winemaking profession across different eras.

She is also a beekeeper. Her hives sit in the family vineyards, where they serve as her measure of how stable the biodiversity of each plot really is. Her convictions led her to certify the farm in organic viticulture in 2023.

The vineyard

Two distinct terroirs

Part of the plots on the Montagne de Reims, on rather clay-limestone land; the rest on the Massif de Saint-Thierry, on rather sandy-silty land.

The measure

Hives in the vines

She keeps bees in the family vineyards and reads the stability of each plot’s biodiversity from them.
